Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

A fresh new take on the Assassin’s Creed series

Released: 5 October 2018 Available on: PC, PS4 and Xbox-One

In recent years the ac series has dipped in quality and have become buggy, repetitive games giving the series a bad reputation, but since the release of Origins in 2017 the series has been revived into one of the best games of the series. Odyssey continues that of what Origins did right and changed a few things that it did wrong. The major turning point for the series that started with origins was the new RPG mechanics, such as leveling up, skill points/abilities and looting weapons/armor. Some new additions that to Odyssey that makes it more of an RPG are dialogue options that each have their own cause/effect and for the first time in the AC series is the option to choose between a male or female protagonist.

“Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s massive world is fulled with many islands to explore and dozens of side quests to complete”

Odyssey is set in during the Peloponnesian war (400 years before the events of Origins and is the oldest in the AC timeline) in ancient Greece. You play as either Kassandra/Alexios, an orphan that is the child of a Spartan general that goes on a quest across the Greek islands in search of the past. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s massive world is fulled with many islands to explore and dozens of side quests to complete that will keep you playing long after the 40+ hour campaign. The combat feels as great as ever with the addition of powers/abilities that give you an edge in battles.

conquest battle’s make a new appearance in Odyssey

Another new feature in Odyssey are the conquest battles. In order to initiate the battle you have to side with either the Athenians or the Spartans. Once you side with one and kill enough of the latter, a conquest battle will appear once the enemy is weak enough and an all out fight will start. If you successfully win the battle, the army that you sided with will take over the land. The battles are thrilling and are also rewarding for winning the battle, as you are rewarded with high tier loot and loads of XP.

Odyssey’s vibrant, colorful world is a joy to explore along with its fluid and rewarding combat system that will leave you playing for hours to come. Odyssey is the best AC we have seen in years and is definitely worth picking up and playing.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Review

Another amazing masterpiece from Rockstar

Released: 26 October 2018 Available on: PS4 and Xbox-One

Red Dead Redemption 2 proved itself to be worthy of the hype that surrounded it, from the fantastic story to the breathtaking open-world. The game is a prequel to the Red Dead Redemption and casts you as outlaw and gang member Arthur Morgan, as him and the rest of the gang try to survive the harsh wilds of New Hanover. The game starts off with the Van der Linde gang making their way up the Ambarino mountains in search of shelter from a blizzard due to a bank heist gone wrong. Every mission in RDR2 is always something new and very little missions are repetitive. In recent years open world games are mainly empty shells after the main campaign is finished but this is not the case with RDR2. There are dozens of side quests to complete, animals to hunt/fish and places to explore.

“RDR2 is one of the best open world games released to date”

The amount of things to do and find in RDR2 is immense and will leave you exploring for dozens of hours even after the main games story is completed. There is also an online mode for RDR2 called Red Dead Online (similar to GTA Online) lets you create your on character and play with other people around the world. From the sheer amount of things to do/find, beautiful graphics, fantastic gameplay, interesting characters and an engaging campaign, RDR2 is one of the best open world games released to date.
